  • That's A Yes!

Validation. We all need it. Sometimes more than others. Sometimes we need it just to know we’re on the right path or making the right decision. And sometimes it’s just the icing on the cake; the exclamation point on what already feels like the right thing.

I’ve had a lot of those moments when it came to starting and running my brand Have Some Fun Today. Seeing my brand take hold in my hometown, watching the positive response to our brand message and of course, seeing pics of celebrities like Brooke Shields with the luxe tote, Reese Witherspoon in our muscle tank and Kate Hudson in the zip hoodie. Those are moments that have inspired me to keep going and to explore what else is out there!

    Cover Girl

Certainly, being featured on the cover of a magazine with my HSFT luxe tote is one of those moments. When Lehigh Valley Style approached me about a story, I was already flattered. Sure, it’s great for any brand to land a cover story, but honestly, I love telling the story of my father, his legacy and how I was inspired to start the company after his passing.

Those validation moments are important guides when we take any journey. I take them as signs to keep going and inspiration to do things my own way, even when it isn't what everyone else is doing.

I’ve always felt confident in my vision, even if it wasn’t the popular one. I can visualize where I’m going when I create and design. Not everyone is going to agree. And that’s ok. I feel like that was the gift of my art and being a painter. You have to trust the vision and the process. Your vision. It’s not supposed to look like anyone else’s.

It All Started With A Painting

It's been over four years since I started and I've now got a beautiful collection of those moments and stories as HSFT has grown. Even from the very beginning when I went back to my old stomping grounds in NYC to Parsons School of Design and begin designing our popular Luxe Tote. I learned so much through each of those experiences and those stories have become the fabric of the HSFT story.

Each time I become inspired to try something new or create another direction for HSFT, I take time to be reflective and really tune in to what it could be. It's less about a hot, new trend and more about the big picture of what I'm trying to create with HSFT. I'd rather create something classic and reflective of our brand than just a seasonal fad.

I've long been a big believer in meditation and I've openly shared in this blog my daily ritual of Rune Stones as a guide for my life. Those things help me tune in and connect energetically to my vision.

A Vision Turns Into A Brand

And when you get that validating moment, a pic of a celeb wearing HSFT, a note from a customer fighting cancer who connects to the message, that's when I know I'm right where I need to be.

I know I have a story to tell but to have the privilege of sharing it on a larger platform like a magazine, and for others to have a chance to share in it, that just feels good.

It’s in those moments when I realize I’ve created something real from the legacy of my father’s words. The vision I had for an HSFT painting that day sitting on my couch, took on a life of its own. And now my brand is sold all over the world. It’s humbling and it’s beautiful and I’m proud of what’s come from it.

I know my Dad is, too. He’s beaming from ear to ear up there with that unmistakable Joe Rado smile and reminding me to just revel in the accomplishments, stay on my track and always, "Have Some Fun Today".

    Love & Light,

  • New Year, New You?

Each New Year, we mark the passage of time with a celebration. Big or small, black tie or ball drop in our pjs, many of us begin January with high hopes for change, personal goals and better versions of ourselves.

The New Year is an opportunity to begin again as the calendar page turns. We set the bar, we scribble down goals, we join gyms and make promises to ourselves. This is it. This is the year. This is where I start.

What is your starting point? Where and what do you start with to get to your version of your best self? It is different for all of us, unique as our fingerprint.

    Reflections With Rocks

Each morning, I take time to meditate and do a reading with my Rune Stones, a tradition that uses polished rocks with letters from the Runic Alphabet. I find the quiet time in the morning with the Rune Stones helps me start my day with more mindfulness. It helps me set an intention and grounds me.

Today's Rune Stone was "possession".  Here is what the stone means..."This Rune calls for a deep probing of the meaning of profit and gain in your life. Look with the care to know whether it is wealth and possessions you require for your well-being, or rather self-rule and the growth of a will."

It struck me that this rune is exactly the starting point that many of us need to help us get to to our "happy'. I think it's asking, "What is really important to you? What does profit and gain or "wealth" mean to you? And maybe we already have it.

    My Father's Daughter

It was my Dad who said to me each time we left each other's company, "Have some fun today." Today, almost four years after his passing, I really feel like I know what he meant.

As I walk through my own journey in life to find my highest self, help others and give just a little something back to the greater good, my father's words take on new meaning. He wanted me to find my joy. He wanted me to have happiness and fun because he knew life was precious. He loved golf, a great meal, time with his family. That was his joy and fun.  What is it for you?

The passing of another year for me is less about making hard and fast rules or resolutions for the New Year to help me be my best self. I've never really liked rules anyway, and anyone that knows me, knows I'm likely to break them.

What I have been doing these first days of 2018 is to reflect on all that I've gone through to get here, what I'm grateful for, and how much I've learned from the past year. I just have this feeling that I'm going to be unstoppable in 2018. It's going to be a really, really good year...

    Peace, love and FUN,

    Steph

Gut. Intuition. Trust. Faith. It’s “that” feeling. We all have that feeling, when we know something isn’t right, or is soooo right. But too often, we get caught up in the external. And somehow manage to talk ourselves right out of “that feeling.”

    Feelings And More Feelings

What does it mean to follow your gut? It’s a literal interpretation these days, as we are learning so much about how our gut health and our bacterial make-up is “the brain” of our body, regulating and controlling many of our physical, emotional and mental reactions.

Our gut feeling is what I like to think of as my map. Writer and philosopher Yung Pueblo calls it our “guiding compass” and believes we are all old souls who truly know what we want and need. It’s just being able to listen to and trust in it that is often the hardest.

    The Stillness And The Quiet

I don’t do a very good job with this. It’s taken me lots of practice and reflection to connect to this part of me. I lived for many years trying to ignore it. Filling it up with another shopping trip or lovely vacation. Avoiding the quiet and the stillness where that little voice would creep up on me and ask the questions I didn’t want to answer, let alone even hear.

I’m now at a place in my life where I am free-falling into exploring myself and not only listening to that gut feeling, but cultivating time and space in my life to hear it. For many years, I’ve used of used Rune Stones as a morning ritual to help set a space and intention for my day. I listen to the signs and signals my body and my mind are sending me and read the rocks as a way to set intentions and awareness for my day.

     Just Listen

Our body and mind has incredibly useful information if you just listen to yourself. Our truth is living inside each of us and when we can harness the energy of that “guiding compass”, it leads us to true happiness and joy. That's what Have Some Fun Today means to me.

Trust yourself. Trust the process and trust your gut. Never mind the obstacles that may seem like they are in your way, they are there to teach you something. Be your own guide and open up to everything possible when you do.

  • Have Some Fun Tonight - It's a Full Moon tonight, baby! What kind of fun can you scare up tonight? (pictured, HSFT slouchy gold metallic tank)

Get Ready for the Moon Mojo

We love good vibrations at Have Some Fun Today, it's what our brand is all about. So, tonight's sky will bring an intensely bright and big full moon, full of energies and rejuvenation.  Sitting low on the horizon as it ascends, it's lunar mojo will carry a powerful punch. It will look ginormous and it may feel it, too.

It's a scientific fact the earth is sitting directly between the sun and moon when we have a full moon. The moon harnesses the power of water and pulls the tides and in out. Our bodies are 70% water so many believe the almighty moon has a powerful pull on us, too! Often called a "Harvest Moon"  because it's thought that farmer's used the extra light in the dark sky to pull in the crops, what can you accomplish tonight in the intensely bright moonlight?

Lunar energies are thought to be very powerful and healing, so get your moon shoes on and be prepared to step out into the beauty and the magic. It will be bold and beautiful but it's also bound to create a little drama. That Fall full moon is full of magic, baby!

Here's our Lunar guide with 11 tips, facts and need-to-knows to make the most of your Harvest Moon.

    1) Aries Is A Badass

Not to get too heady about it, but the full moon of October is an Aries moon and apparently that is some powerful shit. Aries is all about clearing out the obstacles and making way for change and connecting to our badass selves.

    2) What's it All Mean?

The Full Moon in October means abundance, harvest, wish-fulfillment, manifesting desires, sexuality, achieving all dreams, and protection.

    3) To the Moon!

Celebrate the Harvest Moon with a Pumpkin Pie Martini - Because it's Autumn and it's a fall moon and why not? Remember, the full moon in Aries means it's all about you, so make that toast to your badass self. Cheers!

    4) Soak it Up

The Harvest Moon is thought to have an intense energy so many lunar spirit junkies will place their rocks, stones, crystals, mala beads or Runes rocks outside to soak up the moon mojo. The Energy is thought to cleanse them and be absorbed for some positive vibes.

    5) Take it Easy

The energy of a full moon can cause a frenetic, cosmic buzz. We've all heard the phrase, "It must be a Full Moon!" when something is particularly whacked. This Harvest Moon is no exception. The October full moon will only amplify feelings, emotions and intensify situations, so practice calmness and be chill. It will all look different in the morning.

    6) Meditate in the Moonlight

Want to align your chakras, calm your spirit, or rejuvenate your mojo? Sit in the full moonlight and close your eyes. Inhale and exhale the vibrations that are powerful enough to move the tides of the oceans. Breathe in the moon!

    7) Burn Baby, Burn

Believe it or not, it's good time to burn shit. Literally and figuratively. Letting go of an old relationship? Moving on from a bad work experience? Aries is the fire sign and burning things can be quite healing under this full moon. Take it outside under the moonlight and find a clearing or safe spot. Let your barbecue grill or your fire pit be the place where you watch flames engulf a letter to your ex or the business card from your old job. Fire is cleansing and it makes way for the new. You never know, a phoenix may rise from the ash, so get some matches...

    8) Express Yourself

Apparently all this Aries full moon vibe draws out our self expression and our most fiery passions. Our deepest soul expressions are thought to come alive under an Aries full moon. What better reason to get out a canvas and a paint brush, color, draw, write, make music. Create! The moon is your muse....

    9) Have Some Fun Tonight

Is their magic in the moonlight? As it shines brightly on the horizon and stays long in our night sky tonight, we'll let you decide. But it's a pretty good reason to open up to the possibility of "What if..." and "Maybe I'll..." as we consider the magic of the moon. And being open to possibility and magic is pretty much what Have Some Fun Today is all about. Maybe a glance at that big ol' moon tonight will remind you of that....

HAVE SOME FUN TODAY - We've just shifted into a time of seasonal re-birth, all things shiny & new, and green. It's Spring! The world around us is buzzing with growth, but for some of us, 2017 still has us stuck. Maybe we've missed the boat on some of those well-intended resolutions, and we're not feeling the love of the "New Year/New You". Let's not forget we're only four months into the year and there is still plenty of time left to kick it into gear and make some positive changes.

These 3 tips are Game Changers because they'll have a powerful impact on your life with minimal effort. And the best thing is, they're all free. You don't need to spend a dime to make a powerful change and mix it up in your life.

      1) Practice Meditation

You don't need to look far to find countless articles, studies and research touting the benefits of meditation. It's no longer just a new-agey thing that yogis do, it's been put to the scrutiny of scientists and doctors alike who have discovered it has a profound effect on our bodies and our brain. We're big believers of meditation here at HSFT, and most of us practice some form of meditation on a regular basis. Whether you want to focus your intention on one specific outcome or just release your mind from it's hamster wheel of thoughts and stress, meditation has a big payoff.

It's known to lower stress levels, increase our attention levels, and actually alter the brain by increasing grey matter and specific brain functions. Here's the best part about meditation; it's a powerful tool that is accessible to anyone and it doesn't cost a thing. Start in a comfortable space. Close your eyes. Begin by focusing on your breathing. You don't need to sit there for hours, just start with five minutes. You'll be amazed at how quickly it goes. You can find some very cool resources on line for meditation like this one at UCLA Mindfulness Awareness Research Center where you can download several different guided mediations to get you started.

      2) Develop A Ritual

Forming a new habit can be as challenging as breaking a bad one but a ritual goes one step further. Blogger Daisy from Simplicity Relished describes it as this, "Rituals are simply habits imbued with meaning..."  The beautiful thing about infusing rituals into our life is how they give us a go-to familiarity that is like a rhythmic touchstone in our day. Maybe you already have a ritual; morning mediation, 3-mile run, prayer, journaling time at night, a walk in nature. Whether you know it or not, you may have already carved out your own, but a ritual is personal and it's something you do for you.

"So...you think about the things you are grateful for, and the people that you love, and the things you need to do in a day to thrive..." - HSFT Founder Stephanie Taormina on her daily ritual.

HSFT founder Stephanie Taormina talked about her own daily rituals that help to keep her centered and grounded in her busy life in a recent HSFT vlog episode on HSFT's YouTube Channel. "It's always good every morning to take some time before you start your day. I like to do my runes, they're really amazing. They are these very old Viking symbols and they are these little discs have symbols on them. So every morning I like to come here and say thanks and regroup my thoughts and my goals. So you kinda think about the things you are grateful for, and the people that you love, and the things you need to do in a day to thrive. It's a journey."

      3) The Power of Positive Thinking (And a Fab t-shirt To Remind You)

There is no shortage of negativity in our world; your own personal world and the great big one we live in. We get bombarded pretty frequently with negative thoughts, actions, events, or even others, in the course of day. It can be overwhelming and difficult not to feel the effects of all those negative vibrations. We're pretty good at filling our own heads with negativity already. And then there's what exists around us every day.

That's when you have to just STOP. Remove the source of negativity. Don't read the news or scroll through Facebook if it upsets you. Don't take that call from a friend if it's more negativity.

START by having SOME FUN TODAY. You're gonna miss the beautiful parts of your life if you keep yourself focused only on the bad stuff. There really is a great, big, beautiful world out there full of pretty amazing people. Choose Positive! Choose that world and choose FUN over the "everything is going to hell" mentality. Shift one negative thought to a positive and you will add some much needed color to your canvas. We highly suggest wearing a really cool t-shirt just to remind you. C'mon... Have Some Fun Todayyou know you wanna.

    • HAVE SOME FUN TODAY - We've just closed the book on January of the New Year and for many of us, resolutions have come and gone. We've all but forgotten what our intentions were to make this a fabulous year. But 2017 is still in our reach and it's never too late to make a few simple changes that will have maximum positive impact on our lives. We are in the driver's seat to creating our world and our success. Let's grab hold of these next 11 months and see what the world brings us!
