Thoughts on Finding Fun, Being Our Best Selves and Rune Stones

New Year, New You?

Each New Year, we mark the passage of time with a celebration. Big or small, black tie or ball drop in our pjs, many of us begin January with high hopes for change, personal goals and better versions of ourselves.

The New Year is an opportunity to begin again as the calendar page turns. We set the bar, we scribble down goals, we join gyms and make promises to ourselves. This is it. This is the year. This is where I start.

What is your starting point? Where and what do you start with to get to your version of your best self? It is different for all of us, unique as our fingerprint.

Reflections With Rocks

Each morning, I take time to meditate and do a reading with my Rune Stones, a tradition that uses polished rocks with letters from the Runic Alphabet. I find the quiet time in the morning with the Rune Stones helps me start my day with more mindfulness. It helps me set an intention and grounds me.

Today's Rune Stone was "possession".  Here is what the stone means..."This Rune calls for a deep probing of the meaning of profit and gain in your life. Look with the care to know whether it is wealth and possessions you require for your well-being, or rather self-rule and the growth of a will."

It struck me that this rune is exactly the starting point that many of us need to help us get to to our "happy'. I think it's asking, "What is really important to you? What does profit and gain or "wealth" mean to you? And maybe we already have it.

My Father's Daughter

It was my Dad who said to me each time we left each other's company, "Have some fun today." Today, almost four years after his passing, I really feel like I know what he meant.

As I walk through my own journey in life to find my highest self, help others and give just a little something back to the greater good, my father's words take on new meaning. He wanted me to find my joy. He wanted me to have happiness and fun because he knew life was precious. He loved golf, a great meal, time with his family. That was his joy and fun.  What is it for you?

The passing of another year for me is less about making hard and fast rules or resolutions for the New Year to help me be my best self. I've never really liked rules anyway, and anyone that knows me, knows I'm likely to break them.

What I have been doing these first days of 2018 is to reflect on all that I've gone through to get here, what I'm grateful for, and how much I've learned from the past year. I just have this feeling that I'm going to be unstoppable in 2018. It's going to be a really, really good year...

Peace, love and FUN,

Steph
