    Stop The Holidaze

Do you ever feel like the end of October and early November has you blazing towards the holidays at warp speed?

I love this time of year, with beauty of the fall and the beginnings of cozying up to winter, but it always feels like we’re knee-deep into Christmas before we’ve emptied the Halloween candy bowl and tossed out pumpkins.

    Less Stress More FUN

The holidays can create more stress than actual joy and FUN. And since we’re all about the “Have Some Fun Today” mindset, we’ve been thinking of ways to keep the HSFT in our holidays this year.

We've created our HSFT checklist to help you do more than survive this Holiday Season. Here's to less stress and more ways to Have Some Fun this year!

    1. Check the Box

We’ve always believed that HSFT is a mindset and a choice that we make each and every day. Let’s take back our power and own it this holiday. Just decide right now that you are going to Have Fun. No. Matter. What. It really does start with that.

I find that there are always plenty of reasons for me to be stressed out and overwhelmed, but when I am mindful enough to choose to look for the FUN, it changes the course of everything else.

    2. Wear Your Positivity

Start with something simple, like what you’re wearing. A great outfit that’s chic and comfortable can make you feel good and change your entire attitude. Don’t overthink it.

We love a “uniform” of classic pieces that you don’t have to think about and that interchange with things in your closet. A sleek legging, a fantastic fitting jean, a black fitted skirt. I love the versatility of our embroidered off-the-shoulder-fleece whether you're running around to do holiday shopping, checking off you errand list, a business lunch, or office holiday party

It pairs perfectly with classic staples and is super flattering on everyone. Add boots or a blazer and it’s flawless. Most important, its embroidered with your holiday mantra of Have Some Fun Today. Every time you catch yourself in the mirror or in those holiday shop windows, you’ll be reminded of that holiday promise you made. Have FUN!

     3. Simplify

I swear by this in my own daily routine and think it is a powerful way to keep stress free. I always start by writing it down.

I like to create a blueprint or an action plan that keeps me on task and keeps it SIMPLE. When you start with simple, you’re one step ahead of the stress.

Maybe you won’t do holiday cards this year or maybe you’re not giving all the neighbors homemade Christmas cookies, -and that’s okay! Set your intention by writing down not only what you will do, but also what you won’t do. It’s like giving yourself permission to not overdo it.

Studies show that when you write something down, you are twice as likely to follow through or meet your goal…. So, stick to your plan.

What overwhelmed you last year? Don’t give a repeat performance, make it different this year and sketch out a less-stressed holiday plan.

    4. Put YOU On Your List

I am a big believer in rewarding myself or treating myself when I’ve had a particularly challenging day or a grueling task. There’s nothing like a relaxing bath for me where I just indulge in the ceremony of preparing a sacred space and I can just let go. That’s the ultimate HSFT.

I draw the water, add some nourishing bath oils and light candles. I love our HSFT essential oil candle and some relaxing music to create that peaceful ambience. The smells, the hot water; it’s heavenly.

Make time for you! It’s a must when we get so busy and overwhelmed. Creating moments like this for yourself is crucial for creating balance and gratitude.

    5. Give The gift of A Good Vibe

Nothing like reminding everyone around us to Have Some Fun Today. I love sharing our HSFT gifts and clothes with family and friends. We all need a reminder now and again that life should be FUN.

Our gift line of totes like our new deluxe shopper, candles, hats, and wristlets are perfect for everyone on your list. And don’t forget the HSFT tees, muscle tanks, and workout gear.

I always love seeing how happy people are when I give the gift of HSFT. It instantly brings a smile. We all need more HSFT in our lives, so spread the love. That’s what this brand is all about, and our holidays should be, too.

    6. To Your Health

I’ve always believed in the mind-body-spirit connection in my life and it’s never more important than during the holidays. It’s easy to lose ourselves in the holiday party food and a few glasses of bubbly.

I love to indulge in my Italian family’s delicious cooking, especially during the holidays. But keeping my time at the gym keeps me grounded and stops the guilt trip when I do indulge. The holidays can be physically taxing so we need all the strength we can get. Working out makes us feel good and it keeps us strong.

Don’t skip your workout, just make it more FUN. We’ve got a whole line of HSFT work out leggings, sports bras, muscle tanks and hoodie that are perfect for working out and keeping you in the HSFT state-of-mind.

Get Jolly With Our Black Friday Sale

To help you get this holiday season started right, we’ve got a dope sale for Black Friday/Cyber Monday at Have Some Fun Today going all weekend long, beginning November 23rd.

We’ve also got a fabulous event for locals at our Wyomissing studio, if you need some in-person shopping. We’ll be sending invitations by email for 50% off online codes and the times you can swing by the studio and shop with even more holiday savings!

Whatever the holiday season brings you, keep it simple, stylish, and always, -keep it filled with the HSFT spirit…

  • That's A Yes!

Validation. We all need it. Sometimes more than others. Sometimes we need it just to know we’re on the right path or making the right decision. And sometimes it’s just the icing on the cake; the exclamation point on what already feels like the right thing.

I’ve had a lot of those moments when it came to starting and running my brand Have Some Fun Today. Seeing my brand take hold in my hometown, watching the positive response to our brand message and of course, seeing pics of celebrities like Brooke Shields with the luxe tote, Reese Witherspoon in our muscle tank and Kate Hudson in the zip hoodie. Those are moments that have inspired me to keep going and to explore what else is out there!

    Cover Girl

Certainly, being featured on the cover of a magazine with my HSFT luxe tote is one of those moments. When Lehigh Valley Style approached me about a story, I was already flattered. Sure, it’s great for any brand to land a cover story, but honestly, I love telling the story of my father, his legacy and how I was inspired to start the company after his passing.

Those validation moments are important guides when we take any journey. I take them as signs to keep going and inspiration to do things my own way, even when it isn't what everyone else is doing.

I’ve always felt confident in my vision, even if it wasn’t the popular one. I can visualize where I’m going when I create and design. Not everyone is going to agree. And that’s ok. I feel like that was the gift of my art and being a painter. You have to trust the vision and the process. Your vision. It’s not supposed to look like anyone else’s.

It All Started With A Painting

It's been over four years since I started and I've now got a beautiful collection of those moments and stories as HSFT has grown. Even from the very beginning when I went back to my old stomping grounds in NYC to Parsons School of Design and begin designing our popular Luxe Tote. I learned so much through each of those experiences and those stories have become the fabric of the HSFT story.

Each time I become inspired to try something new or create another direction for HSFT, I take time to be reflective and really tune in to what it could be. It's less about a hot, new trend and more about the big picture of what I'm trying to create with HSFT. I'd rather create something classic and reflective of our brand than just a seasonal fad.

I've long been a big believer in meditation and I've openly shared in this blog my daily ritual of Rune Stones as a guide for my life. Those things help me tune in and connect energetically to my vision.

A Vision Turns Into A Brand

And when you get that validating moment, a pic of a celeb wearing HSFT, a note from a customer fighting cancer who connects to the message, that's when I know I'm right where I need to be.

I know I have a story to tell but to have the privilege of sharing it on a larger platform like a magazine, and for others to have a chance to share in it, that just feels good.

It’s in those moments when I realize I’ve created something real from the legacy of my father’s words. The vision I had for an HSFT painting that day sitting on my couch, took on a life of its own. And now my brand is sold all over the world. It’s humbling and it’s beautiful and I’m proud of what’s come from it.

I know my Dad is, too. He’s beaming from ear to ear up there with that unmistakable Joe Rado smile and reminding me to just revel in the accomplishments, stay on my track and always, "Have Some Fun Today".

    Love & Light,

    Day 6 – Post Surgery

    1. You have to be mentally strong to do a surgery like this
    1. Everything leading up to this surgery and since then, has given me an appreciation for a healthy body
    1. I have a renewed respect and fascination for medical innovation and science
    1. Sometimes you have to put your faith in the science to fix the problem, instead of putting a Band-Aid on it
    1. Recovery is a full time job, mentally and physically
    1. Being as healthy as possible going into any surgery will make recovery easier

Just a little over two weeks ago, I had a bilateral hip replacement. It was a bold decision to have both my hips replaced at such a young age, but with the help of an incredible doctor, some indisputable facts and knowing I had tried everything else I could, it was time.

    Why did I do it?

I’ve had some time to think a lot the last few days, as I watch my body go through the incredible process of healing. A walker, my bed, my laptop, occasional visitors; this has been my world.

The biggest gift of this whole process is what it’s taught me and reminded me about myself. A double hip replacement forces one to slow down, but it’s also an invitation to go inward and reflect. I can clearly see now that my whole journey through pain, treatment and eventually surgery, has truly been such a gift.

I’ve been living with intense physical pain in my hips the last four years. And I spent a large part of that time seeking alternative treatments and doing everything I could to make it better. I was determined to change it.

Your Body Really Is A Temple

For most of my adult life, the one thing I’ve been able to control was my fitness and body image. After my youngest daughter was born, I made a commitment to take better care of myself so that I could be healthy and strong for my daughters. I truly believe that’s one of the most important things you can do for your children.

By my late 30’s, I had a better, stronger, and leaner body than ever before in my life. When my sister started RADO Nutritionin California, it opened me up to a whole world of nutrition and natural supplements. My workouts moved to things like Pilates, yoga and personal training. I loved the way I felt.

My journey to stay fit and eat healthy foods opened up a more evolved sense of self in my 40’s. I began to study spirituality, psychology and really make a mind-body-spirit connection through things like yoga and meditation.

I’ve found that being healthy and strong both mentally and physically, carried me through the difficult times that were ahead for me, like the ending of my 17-year marriage and several years later, the death of my father.

    A Brand Comes to Life

When I started Have Some Fun Today4 years ago just after my father passed, I knew it would take my blood, sweat and tears to bring this brand into existence. It was an enormous amount of work that would require all my stamina and strength and anyone that knows me, knows that I wouldn’t be doing this half-ass. This was going to take my everything, if it was going to be something worthwhile.

A year into the building of my company, I started having difficulty with my hips and movement. I initially thought it was a minor injury or strain on my joints. But soon I was having a hard time working out and even walking. I started looking for anything and everything to help me; chiropractors, physical therapists, sports medicine therapists, Pilates instructors, strength trainers and massage therapists. In addition to my new company and being a mom to two teenage girls, attending to “my hips” was becoming a full-time job.

    A Crystal Clear Revelation

A few months ago, I was reading about some alternative therapy for joints. I scheduled an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon and another doctor to start some alternative therapy. ”Hip replacement” was not even on my radar.

As I chatted with the physicians assistant about my plan, the doctor came in and bluntly said, “You need a full double hip replacement”. For the first time since this whole thing had started, I was able rationally able to see it. I needed a double hip replacement and no amount of alternative therapies were going to change that.

I realized that everything I was doing would not result in me being able to move without pain the way I wanted. Sitting there in that doctor’s office, it became so crystal clear to me that it was the right thing to do. I didn’t want to waste any more time and scheduled the surgery as soon as I could.

    Re-building and Reconnecting

Looking back, I think I was learning to live with my pain, without realizing how much of a limitation it was really putting on my life.

In the days since the surgery, through all the pain and the slow recovery, I keep coming back to this one thing. With my legs numb and swollen, as I push myself to get out of this bed and walk every hour, the message is loud and clear. The only person that I have to answer to is me. If I want to get better, then I have to push myself. If I want to heal and be strong again, I have to dig in and get on this road to recovery, because no one else is going to put me there. I want to get better for me.

As I work daily and hourly to re-connect my mind-body, it takes an excruciating amount of concentration between my brain and my body to just move. Small steps with a walker, little victories as I see things changing in the smallest of ways, I feel the shift. I realize how much our thoughts control our actions. I’m using those same tools that I honed through my health and wellness journey all those years ago. Then I get back in the bed, prop my legs up and rest until it’s time to do it all over again in another hour.

    Gratitude Is A Game Changer

And through all of this, I do NOT feel sorry for myself.  I just feel grateful. The gift is that when I am better, I will have joy of knowing what it means to move without cringing pain or limping. I will know the difference.

My fitness, nutrition and spiritual habits have been my go-to for coping until the storm passes. I feel like taking care of myself this way has saved me from the depths of despair when things have been most challenging. And now my body will be even stronger, wiser and healthier as I continue to climb the challenges that life brings me every day.

A steady mind, a healthy life will persevere through almost anything.

    Unstoppable

I cannot wait for what is in store and what life has for me just around the bend.

What I’ve come to understand is that this was about quality of life. My wise father said these four simple, sweet words when you left his company, “Have some fun today”. And after he left this world, his words are still with us. They mean more to me now then I could ever know.

Those words are brilliant. And that philosophy, the HSFT mantra, is why I ultimately said yes to the double hip replacement. Have Some Fun Todayis seeking quality of life, searching for that little bit of magic, reaching for something higher. Something better.

I said yes to something to give me back my quality of life so I could truly live the “HSFT” life. I knew I had to make a change to be free, and live unhindered by pain. There’s nothing stopping me now from having “fun”. We are not here for that long. Our time is fleeting in this world and what lies in between should be our own wonderful, crazy, interesting and unique story. Stake your claim. Make the decision to do something bold and unexpected so you can live the best life you can!

That’s what I think my Dad was saying. Have some fun. Today. Don’t put it off. Don’t find another excuse. You don’t get another shot at this.

Thanks, Dad. I really needed to hear that.

    Love, light and HSFT,

  • New Year, New You?

Each New Year, we mark the passage of time with a celebration. Big or small, black tie or ball drop in our pjs, many of us begin January with high hopes for change, personal goals and better versions of ourselves.

The New Year is an opportunity to begin again as the calendar page turns. We set the bar, we scribble down goals, we join gyms and make promises to ourselves. This is it. This is the year. This is where I start.

What is your starting point? Where and what do you start with to get to your version of your best self? It is different for all of us, unique as our fingerprint.

    Reflections With Rocks

Each morning, I take time to meditate and do a reading with my Rune Stones, a tradition that uses polished rocks with letters from the Runic Alphabet. I find the quiet time in the morning with the Rune Stones helps me start my day with more mindfulness. It helps me set an intention and grounds me.

Today's Rune Stone was "possession".  Here is what the stone means..."This Rune calls for a deep probing of the meaning of profit and gain in your life. Look with the care to know whether it is wealth and possessions you require for your well-being, or rather self-rule and the growth of a will."

It struck me that this rune is exactly the starting point that many of us need to help us get to to our "happy'. I think it's asking, "What is really important to you? What does profit and gain or "wealth" mean to you? And maybe we already have it.

    My Father's Daughter

It was my Dad who said to me each time we left each other's company, "Have some fun today." Today, almost four years after his passing, I really feel like I know what he meant.

As I walk through my own journey in life to find my highest self, help others and give just a little something back to the greater good, my father's words take on new meaning. He wanted me to find my joy. He wanted me to have happiness and fun because he knew life was precious. He loved golf, a great meal, time with his family. That was his joy and fun.  What is it for you?

The passing of another year for me is less about making hard and fast rules or resolutions for the New Year to help me be my best self. I've never really liked rules anyway, and anyone that knows me, knows I'm likely to break them.

What I have been doing these first days of 2018 is to reflect on all that I've gone through to get here, what I'm grateful for, and how much I've learned from the past year. I just have this feeling that I'm going to be unstoppable in 2018. It's going to be a really, really good year...

    Peace, love and FUN,

    Steph
