    A Lightbulb Moment That Created A Lifestyle

    I started my brand, Have Some Fun Today, 3-and-half-years ago, inspired by something my late father always said. I’ve created an entire company from those four words; a company about positivity, finding joy and being mindful everyday. I took that sweet sentiment my father said to me, and anyway else as they would leave his presence, “Have some fun today” and created a mantra for my life and a lifestyle brand that reinforces living and appreciating life.

    And as I began this journey to building a brand and creating this business, I’ve tried to live that mindset and that mantra. Last week in the blog, I shared how my challenges with chronic pain have made that more difficult some days. But I truly have tried to embody what I think Have Some Fun Today really means and what it stands for.

    Your Vibe Really Does Attract Your Tribe

    The beautiful thing I’ve encountered over the last three years are all the incredible people who have taken HSFT and made it their own. And they’ve embodied the HSFT mindset and it means something a little different to everyone. It’s connected me to all these amazing people and truly created a community. Many of them have become friends. And what I’ve realized as the path continues for me and HSFT, is that this grassroots company I started has set the tone for my vibe. And so yeah, my vibe has attracted my tribe.

    And oh what a tribe! From CEO’s to artists, to Moms and models, and every beautiful thing in between. What an eclectic, eccentric and fantastic tribe I’ve watched emerge and circle around my “brand with soul.” Have Some Fun Today has connected me to some of the most interesting people I’ve ever met.

    What You Get Is What You Give

    The Law of Attraction is pretty simple. What you think, feel, speak, and otherwise generate, whether from your mouth or from your brain, is what you are putting out into the universe. And the universe will respond by bringing you more of the same. So, like attracts like. Negativity brings more negativity. And positivity, well, you get the idea.

    It’s never been more clear to me at this place in my life that I create and control my happiness. Living the HSFT mantra and the brand that I created has brought me to a deeper place of understanding about really being present and mindful enough every day to enjoy and be grateful.

    For me, it has proved to be powerful and palpable. And a little bit magical. And that’s been the beauty of living those four words every single day.

  • Have. Some. Fun. Today.

    Three-and-a-half years ago, I started an entire brand on those words of my late father; words that I've used as a guiding force in my life to remind me to find the joy and fun in my life. I've put those words on t-shirts, totes, mugs, hats, candles, hoodies, -just about anything I could think of, emblazoned with that mantra. A reminder for all of us to embrace life and enjoy.  

    Rainbows and Unicorns

    And yet, I don't always awake every morning with song birds at my window, whistling while I work, smiling all the day at the beauty and the FUN in every last moment. It's not constant joy and sunshine, as I gaze at those words in my studio space, packing up shipments or setting up a pop-up shop. Some days it's pretty %#@! hard to Have Some Fun Today.

    Some days, it's a struggle to find the joy at all. Isn't that true for any of us? Some days, I am overwhelmed with the weight of running my own business, my two college-age daughters who need me but don't "need me", my journey with chronic pain and arthritis in my hips, and the demands and pressures I put on myself to get it all done. Some days, I forget that I'm supposed to stop and take a moment and just remember how lucky I really am. Some days, I sarcastically think to myself, "Oh, yeah, this is really fun...". 

    Spike The Egg Nog

    It's never been more true than this time of year, as we all scatter about with the hustle and bustle of holiday cards, gift shopping, parties, perfunctory holiday traditions. I'm trying to fit it all in, and still run my own business during one of the busiest buying times of the year.

    I know I have to work that much harder to "HSFT". I really have to reach into the mindfulness practices that I have set in my life to remind me to pause. I have to be okay with just letting go of some things because it's necessary for my sanity. I have to be good with saying, I can't do it all and that's okay. 

    There is No Easy Button 

    Sometimes that's when I just have to laugh. When it all feels like more than I can handle and I just might snap, I realize there's a hilarity in it all. What else can you do but laugh in those moments? I think that's what my Dad was really trying to say, in those moments more than ever, it's crystal clear. "Hey kid, it's gonna be tough and it's gonna be overwhelming, but try to find something about it all that is good. That is joyful. That is FUN." 

    No one ever said it was going to be easy, this Have Some Fun Today thing. We have to work that much harder sometimes to find our joy, find our happy. What small moment can we carve out for that? 

    A Little Something For You 

    Take time for you. Remember that you do enough. Remind yourself it's okay if it doesn't all get done. Do something for you. Don't let this time of year absorb you completely without taking a moment to savor the joy and the FUN. 

    And when you survive it all and have come out on the other side, we'll be having a little "day after" sale.     HAVE SOME FUN TODAY - We've just shifted into a time of seasonal re-birth, all things shiny & new, and green. It's Spring! The world around us is buzzing with growth, but for some of us, 2017 still has us stuck. Maybe we've missed the boat on some of those well-intended resolutions, and we're not feeling the love of the "New Year/New You". Let's not forget we're only four months into the year and there is still plenty of time left to kick it into gear and make some positive changes. 

    These 3 tips are Game Changers because they'll have a powerful impact on your life with minimal effort. And the best thing is, they're all free. You don't need to spend a dime to make a powerful change and mix it up in your life. 

    1) Practice Meditation

    You don't need to look far to find countless articles, studies and research touting the benefits of meditation. It's no longer just a new-agey thing that yogis do, it's been put to the scrutiny of scientists and doctors alike who have discovered it has a profound effect on our bodies and our brain. We're big believers of meditation here at HSFT, and most of us practice some form of meditation on a regular basis. Whether you want to focus your intention on one specific outcome or just release your mind from it's hamster wheel of thoughts and stress, meditation has a big payoff. 

    It's known to lower stress levels, increase our attention levels, and actually alter the brain by increasing grey matter and specific brain functions. Here's the best part about meditation; it's a powerful tool that is accessible to anyone and it doesn't cost a thing. Start in a comfortable space. Close your eyes. Begin by focusing on your breathing. You don't need to sit there for hours, just start with five minutes. You'll be amazed at how quickly it goes. You can find some very cool resources on line for meditation like this one at UCLA Mindfulness Awareness Research Center where you can download several different guided mediations to get you started. 

     

    2) Develop A Ritual

    Forming a new habit can be as challenging as breaking a bad one but a ritual goes one step further. Blogger Daisy from Simplicity Relished describes it as this, "Rituals are simply habits imbued with meaning..."  The beautiful thing about infusing rituals into our life is how they give us a go-to familiarity that is like a rhythmic touchstone in our day. Maybe you already have a ritual; morning mediation, 3-mile run, prayer, journaling time at night, a walk in nature. Whether you know it or not, you may have already carved out your own, but a ritual is personal and it's something you do for you.

    HSFT founder Stephanie Taormina talked about her own daily rituals that help to keep her centered and grounded in her busy life in a recent HSFT vlog episode on HSFT's YouTube Channel. "It's always good every morning to take some time before you start your day. I like to do my runes, they're really amazing. They are these very old Viking symbols and they are these little discs have symbols on them. So every morning I like to come here and say thanks and regroup my thoughts and my goals. So you kinda think about the things you are grateful for, and the people that you love, and the things you need to do in a day to thrive. It's a journey." 

     

    3) The Power of Positive Thinking (And a Fab t-shirt To Remind You)

    There is no shortage of negativity in our world; your own personal world and the great big one we live in. We get bombarded pretty frequently with negative thoughts, actions, events, or even others, in the course of day. It can be overwhelming and difficult not to feel the effects of all those negative vibrations. We're pretty good at filling our own heads with negativity already. And then there's what exists around us every day.

    That's when you have to just STOP. Remove the source of negativity. Don't read the news or scroll through Facebook if it upsets you. Don't take that call from a friend if it's more negativity.

    START by having SOME FUN TODAY. You're gonna miss the beautiful parts of your life if you keep yourself focused only on the bad stuff. There really is a great, big, beautiful world out there full of pretty amazing people. Choose Positive! Choose that world and choose FUN over the "everything is going to hell" mentality. Shift one negative thought to a positive and you will add some much needed color to your canvas. We highly suggest wearing a really cool t-shirt just to remind you.
