    The Holidays are here!

2020 has been one of the most disruptive years of the century, so why not make this coming holiday one to remember.

Here are some fun ideas to help you navigate the holidays with a festive spirit despite all the constraints of life in 2020.

1.) First of all - Let's start with a clean palette - take a few hours to clean up your main living space. If you find yourself with a bunch of odds and ends that you really don't need consider a donation to a local shelter. Many of them accept donations of basics like clean blankets and other household necessities. Locally there is Mary's Home, Opportunity House & Hope Rescue or google homeless shelters in your area. - HSFT!

2.) Get Organized - Don't be a last minute shopper, let's make this holiday be packed with meaning instead of $$$. Start by making a list of the people you want to give something to. With Black Friday/ Cyber Monday sales starting earlier this year it's easy to just buy stuff. But to make this season more festive, giving gifts with meaning is really where it's at. That is why I have created a fun Holiday Gift Guide to help people find something with the Have Some Fun Today spirit. We have little gifts to big gifts for all ages, genders, sizes & budgets.- HSFT!

3.) Create Some Fun Activities  - Ok, so I'm not a baker or a crafter and I don't even do a very good job lighting a fire with wood in my fireplace, but I think this year I'm going to be adventurous and HSFT with a few group holiday activities.

a.) Ornament making - After googling DIY ornament making ideas I saw so many fun ways to spend an afternoon with my daughters, mom and nieces making customized ornaments. My favorite one was an easy tutorial on painted ornaments with a touch of copper metallic trim. -HSFT!

b.) Baking something naughty but healthy - I know, I'm so boring because I really don't crave or eat sweets, but this holiday I think it would be fun to select a cool and yummy recipe to make together. Like the Carrot Cake I saw on the Goop Instagram page that is gluten-free, dairy-free , soy-free and supposedly tastes great! I am dying to make this over the holidays with the help of my girls and mom.- HSFT!

c.) Creative Wrapping Party - This sounds like so much fun to me:) Over the covid 19 lockdown my girls and I got into painting and all kinds of artsy endeavors. So rather than the boring & expensive traditional wrapping paper, I think it would be  fun to create original and artistic wrapping for the gifts we give this year. Purchase some plain white or brown craft paper or even use the newspaper as the base. Pull out the acrylic paints and even add a little glitter to make your wrapping paper customized to the person you are gifting. HSFT!

4.) Be A Secret Santa: Make a list of 5 -10 people you want to surprise with a little holiday Secret Santa gift... To me this doesn't have to be reciprocated or planned. One of the things I find joyful is giving gifts. You don't need to spend more than $10-15 gift, put it inside one of the crafty little gift bags you are going to make, add a little piece of a fir tree sprig along with a sweet and kind note. A little HSFT item would be ideal :) - the feeling you will receive spreading some love is worth it!- HSFT

5.) Holiday Playlist Perfection: Whether it is classic Holiday tunes or mixing genres, I think it could be a lot of fun to create some holiday playlists and share them with your friends. After all these next two months are going to be a lot of nights in with the fam and we want to make this memorable, so it's gonna take some effort and planning. Whether your into AppleMusic, or Amazon Music and the featured holiday playlists or if you love creating your own on Spotify or do the Pandora thing- music is a backdrop for memories and good moments shared. -HSFT!

6.) Give Back - For anyone who can give their time to a soup kitchen over the holidays here is a link for you to check out no matter where you live. With all that has happenned this year, more people are homeless and hungry than ever before. Please consider doing something. You can find out how to go in person to volunteer, or you can make a monetary donation online or also visit the organizations Amazon wishlist to order supplies they need like underwear, shampoo, fresh socks and clean new tee shirts. Do Something. Do what you can - It feels good. - HSFT!

7.) Write a note to each member of your family on Christmas Day. I have done this for years for my family and I feel it is truly the best gift to share with people what they mean to you and why. Now more than ever, family- if you have one; needs to be valued and appreciated. What a wonderful gift it is to share with others the qualities you cherish about them. Try that this year and feel the joy that brings.- HSFT!

8.) Include someone who needs people around. I know this one may be tricky, but if you can make it work in some way please include someone in some way over the holidays either in your gathering or by bringing something to them. Not everyone has a family or access to them. Sharing some extra love with someone not so fortunate is a great way to spread love and right now the world needs as much love as we can create this 2020.- HSFT!

9.) Show your gratitude. Whether it is a polite thank you, a huge hug or a handwritten thank you note, let's be mindful of saying thanks to each and every person that is part of your holiday celebrations. So often we rip open the gifts and in 10 minutes we are left with a heap of wrapping paper on the floor and a let down feeling. Take the time to watch others receive their gifts, and to enjoy the warm feelings of gift exchange as it is meant to bring. Giving thanks is one way of making the world smile. - HSFT!

10.) Pitch in for the holiday feast preparations and the cleaning up. Why not blast some holiday music as you all do your jobs to make that holiday meal a success? There is nothing more fun to me than when my family is playing some Frank Sinatra and we have our aprons on, champagne flutes clanking, laughter, stories being told and everyone taking part in the cooking and the cleaning up. It's not the girls job, make it an all family endeavor and it will truly be the best holiday ever. - HSFT!

  • How Giving Thanks Can Change Your Life

Live, love, wear and share. That pretty much sums up our Thanksgiving this year... (cashmere beanie and HFST flow roll sleeve Love shirt shown...)

HAVE SOME FUN TODAY - Thankfulness. We're pondering this today on the eve of Thanksgiving, as we're running to the grocery store, liquor store and setting the table for 30. It's a day to give thanks. And yet sometimes this holiday gets blurred by the turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie.

I am grateful for what I am and have. My thanksgiving is perpetual. - Henry David Thoreau

    Gratitude Is A Verb

Gratitude, by definition, is "the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness." To return kindness. Let that sit with you for a while. Gratitude is reciprocating. It's a verb, as in, you "do gratitude". And anyone can conjure up gratitude. It's accessible to anyone who wants it, and oh yeah, it's free. Cultivating being grateful for what you have, not focusing on what you don't, can be a life changing practice as important as exercise and eating right! Basically, it's life changing...

Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our Thanksgiving - W. T. Purkiser

There's even science behind it. Research says that creating gratitude and reflecting on what we are grateful for increases our well-being and happiness. Like, improves the quality of your life. Who doesn't need that? We think that's a no-brainer.

    Just Say Thank You

What do you have in your life that is good? A lot more than you think. And of course, it's always going to be way easier to see what you don't have, initially. But if you sit in stillness and quiet for just a few moments, and grab a journal or even your keyboard, you 'll be amazed at what you can come up. There's a lot more positive in your life than you think. Start with the easy ones. Like, okay, a roof over my head is good. Check. That just gets the juices flowing.

Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude. Ralph Waldo Emerson

Be Thankful And Have Some Fun

Have Some Fun Today is our mantra. It's more than just four little trite words encouraging you to do shots at the bar with your friends, although that can be great fun, too. But we're talking about embracing the idea of getting some joy out of life, and seeing your life with a new perspective, with the chance of something unexpected around every corner.

HSFT might mean taking a chance and taking the road less travelled 'cause you're looking for the magic in that plain ol' day. When you can start finding FUN in everyday, that will give you something to be grateful for. See how that works?

Lead with your heart. Be grateful. Practice the HSFT mind set and there's no question that what's left of 2017 will give you more to be grateful for.

Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.-William Arthur Ward

Be grateful for whatcha got and who ya got. Having an attitude of gratitude promotes positive energy in our lives and attracts more good things!

HAVE SOME FUN TODAY - Spring is weeks away from turning to summer and the seasonal change brings about a natural introspection and time for reflection. We're moving into the warmer, even hot weather. The sun stays around a little longer, the nights are filled with summer skin and lazy beach hair. We may take that much needed vacation. And half of 2017 is in the books. What have got left for the remaining six month of this year?

A change of season is always an invitation for a shift within and a chance to take stock of all that we have. We always love to check-in and take a gratitude check up. Cause there's always something to be grateful for.

    Let's Play The Gratitude Game

Gratitude, by definition, is "the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness." To return kindness. Let that sit with you for a while. What it means is that gratitude is reciprocating and gratitude is a state of mind. Anyone can conjure up gratitude. Cultivating being grateful for what you have, not focusing on what you don't, is energetically and vibrationally powerful! Basically, it's life changing...

And yeah, there's even science behind it. Research says that creating gratitude and reflecting on what we are grateful for increases our well-being and happiness. Like, improves the quality of your life. Are you getting this

What do you have in your life that is good. It's always going to be way easier to see what you don't have, initially. But if you sit in stillness, grab a journal or even your keyboard, reflect on what is it that is purely good and positive in your life. Maybe you have to start with the basics. Like, okay a roof over my head is good. Check. But if you did a little deeper, chances are, you'll find more.

We all are in this human experience, yoked together by some very simple core principles, despite the differences and diversities of all of us. Be grateful for these commonalities we share and what binds us together as human beings. It means none of us are going it alone in this life thing, because there is certainly enough shit in the world to divide us.

  • Spread Gratitude - Write thank you notes to people you love and tell them how grateful you are to have them in your life. Or just thank them for the fuzzy slippers you got for the holidays. Either way, practice gratitude. (featured here, our signature Crown Stationary Set from HSFT.)

HAVE SOME FUN TODAY - January brings about a natural introspection and time for reflection. We've lived through the indulgence, decadence and hubbub of the holidays and we've celebrated the passing of another year while ushering in a new one. So now what? We've got 12 months to explore possibility. What will the year bring and what will we make of it?

We are all embarking on starting something new; a new year. A clean slate. And it's the perfect time to usher in gratitude.

    Let's Play The Gratitude Game

Gratitude, by definition, is "the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness." To return kindness. Let that sit with you for a while. Just Say Thank You

Each year, as I begin the new year, and contemplate what I'm grateful for in the year past, I'm reminded of how similar we all are in this human experience. We are yoked together by some very simple core principles, despite the differences and diversities of all of us. I'm grateful for these commonalities, what we share and what binds us together as human beings. I find gratitude in that because it means none of us our going it alone in this life thing, because there is certainly enough shit in the world to divide us.

It's my gratitude for writing and blogging for HSFT that inspired me to create this blog post. I soooooo appreciate working for a company that values the "human experience" and that was solely created on a legacy of love. It's a company and a founder that believe in living a life that matters. Stephanie Taormina has set out to change the world with those Soul Shifting four words. Have. Some. Fun. Today. Words her Dad used to say and words she uses as a compass through her life. For me, it's a pretty cool job getting to write about that.

    Take A Shot Of Life

Have Some Fun Today is more than just four little trite words encouraging you to do shots at the bar with your friends, although that may sound like fun. We're talking about more than the one dimensional kind of fun. We're talking about seeing your life with a new perspective, with the chance of something unexpected around every corner. What does life look like if you're looking for FUN everyday? HSFT maybe means your taking a chance and the road less travelled because you're looking for the silver lining and the magic in a plain ol' day. And when you can start looking for the FUN in everyday, that will give you something to be grateful about.

Lead with your heart. Be grateful. Practice the HSFT mind set and there's no question it's going to be a kick ass 2017.
