15 Cool Bands You Need On Your Summer 2017 Playlist

HAVE SOME FUN TODAY - It's an ambitiously warm spring day in our part of the world and it's got us thinking 'bout a new bikini, glowing skin and days at the beach. We're all about loading up our HSFT luxe totegrabbing our HSFT Crown hat and hittin' the sand and surf with some dope music and a great read.

Until then, we'll daydream a bit and put ourselves in the mood with the good vibes. Here's our Top 15 Indie Tunes that are a must on our 2017 Beach Jams rotation. What's on your playlist?

1) Sylvan Esso

Toe tapping and ass shaking... her voice is infectious. Download: Die Young and Radio

2) Father John Misty -

His sound is distinct and his good looks make him dreamy eye candy, just ask anyone who got to watch him at Coachella, but he's the real deal. Download: Chateau Lobby #4 and True Affection

3) Silversun Pickups

"Lazy Eye" was a regular on everyone's Indie playlist in 2005, but this LA alt rock band has a new album and new song that has us hitting repeat, again and again. Download: Substitution

4) Mac DeMarco

This artist is the ultimate-hipster-cool Cali vibe who is actually from Canada but channels this surfer chic sound that is the perfect soundtrack for the beach. His new album, "This Old Dog" is cool and chill without trying too hard.  Download: One More Love Song and My Old Man

5) The National

Any half-decent Indie alt groupie knows The National is the poster child for the alt/indie cool. They're must on any playlist. We can't wait for a new album out in September. Download: A teaser to the new album was just released and it's Everything.... The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness

6) Beach House

We could lose ourselves in a velvet undertow of billowy, sultry sound in any of the songs by this duo, but if you must choose, try this... Download: On The Sea and Space Song

7) Best Coast

We're suckers for a kick-ass girl singer and Bethany Cosetino is a dream come true... and did we mention there's a girl drummer. It's unapologetic rock, tinged with an indie/alt vibe and we're hooked. Our favs, Download: Boyfriend and California Nights

8) Car Seat Headrest

It's as though we've fallen down a rabbit hole of alt rock from the 90's and we don't want to leave. This is the band you play loud in the car with the windows down. Download: Drunk Driver/Killer Whales and Fill In The Blank

9) Courtney Barnett

If Courtney Love had an Australian accent and could sing, it might sound like this, with a touch of the Waitresses vibe, circa the 80's. She's got story-like ditties with cool riffs. Download: The Avant Gardner and How to Boil An Egg

10) Haim

A trio of sisters that took the music world by storm in 2013 and yes, they're BFF's with Taylor Swift, but don't let that you sway you either way. Their newest single has a sing-songy vibe a là Wilson Phillips, but in a good way. And they killed it on SNL last weekend. Download: I want you back

11) Band of Horses

No one can forget the haunting and hypnotic breakout song from 2006 from this band, The Funeral. Everything they've done since is pretty much magic. Download: Dilly and Is There A Ghost

12) LCD Soundsystem

This Brooklyn band feels like an indulgent treat with toe tapping, synth poppy beats and driving guitar, it's like the soundtrack to an 80's romcom movie. Pass the Junior Mints. We love it! Download: I Can Change

13) The Xx

We dare you not to become addicted to this English trio and every poppy little ditty they've released. A Coachella darling, we've become particularly fond of this song - Download: I Dare You

14) Perfume Genius

We've just discovered this eclectic performance solo artist with his new song, a great jam and rocking beat. You need this song. Download: Slip Away

15) Fleet Foxes

They're like a glam jam band with five members who push out a harmonic sound that's cool and catchy. They're new album is out in June but the newest single is already a keeper and must in our playlist. Download: Third of May and the classic FF White Winter Hymnal

Grab the sunscreen and your headphones, good tunes are always a requirement for summer HST fun!
